My girls!

Delaney is now 6 weeks old and is growing so fast. She is smiling, cooing, and staying awake longer during the day. It melts my heart every time she smiles. When she is sleeping she will bust out in a giggle, it makes me wonder what she is dreaming/thinking about. We are still working on the sleeping at night and we have had many of talks about sleeping in her bassinet, but she is still turning the idea of sleeping alone down. I wore out my back last night bending over her bed for over 30 mins attempting to soothe her to sleep in her bassinet, but that of course did not work and she ended up in bed next to me. Brian has been sleeping in the other bedroom for the past couple of weeks so that 1.) so I don't have to hold her in my arms all night in fear of Brian rolling over on her (he's a heavy sleeper) and 2.) he gets some good sleep to function for work (I do better than he does in the lack of sleep department). I would rather deal with no sleep than deal with no sleep and a husband who whines about being SOOO tired! hehe. So any ideas on how to get our little Laney bug to sleep in her bed at night would be much appreciated!
Miss Avery is doing really well. The weather has been so nice here lately, except for the one day it snowed last week (see pic above). Snow at the end of April, crazy! She loves to play out side and throws the biggest fit when I have to bring her in. She loves to ride on the four wheeler with grandpa with her red helmet, she hates when the ride is over. She is soo smart, she has learned how to shift the gears, so you have to be careful when she is your co pilot! I will have to post pictures of them, its a site to see! We are still working on the word "yes". She over uses the word "no" and its an exaggerated "NNNNNOOOOO". She loves to dance to music and make up her own words. She has learned to jump and we believe she will be able to dunk a basketball in no time, with her height and jumping skills, we retirement is set! She has learned how to unsnap her onsies and remove her clothing and take off her diaper and run around naked. As I am typing Avery is singing a song and dancing around, she is the light of my life! Its amazing how one little person can make you want to pull your hair out on many of days but make you laugh a moment later.

Avery eating breakfast, messy little eater!
Delaney can finally wear socks and stay on! HUGE milestone:)

Avery had an appt this morning to follow up on her frightening ER visit Friday. Her doctor, who we love and highly recommend, gave her a clean bill of health. Dr. C said that febrile seizures are pretty common but really scary. He also mentioned that it didn't matter how high the degree of fever just the rapid rise of the temp that causes the body to have a seizure. Good to know! She is starting to act like herself again, sitting on my lap singing to me as I type! I was enjoying the "quiet" Avery the last couple of days:) I told Brian that I wanted to have a healthy family for at least the next 6 months. It has been a rough past 6 weeks, but hopefully we are on the mend and are done with seeing doctors and riding in ambulances!

First and Hopefully Last Ambulance Ride!

All day Friday Avery was not acting like her normal rambunctious self. She took an extra long nap (3.5hrs) and she was very clingy, wanting to be right next to me all day. She has been getting one of her teeth, so of course I didn't think much of it when she felt warm, but not HOT to where I thought she needed to be medicated. Brian luckily came home earlier than normal that afternoon and Avery basically just laid on him. Early in the evening, Brian was sitting in the recliner with Avery and I was on the couch feeding Delaney when all of a sudden Brian jumps out of the recliner with Avery in her arms and proceeds to place her on the carpet. I look to see Avery limp, not responsive and her lips were blue! I immediately start to FREAK out and un-latch Delaney and jump up and start screaming for Brian's mom. Brian, my hero, was calm and collected saying that she was having a seizure and I just keep thinking we need to do CPR. I call 911 and of course no answers after 2 rings and I hang up after Brian's mom says she is breathing. Here I am, a nurse, freaking out not able to help my own daughter or know what to do. After the longest 2 mins or so she "comes" to and we get our shoes and put Delaney in the car seat to take Avery to the ER when a loud knocking at door. It was a police officer, apparently when you call 911, even if they don't answer, it locks out your phone and they send an officer to your home. The fire and EMS show up shortly there after. There were about 9 guys in the living room, what a scene! Avery was still breathing shallow and lethargic that we decide to go ahead and transport her by ambulance to the ER, that way she gets in immediately and doesn't have to wait and I don't have to worry about her having another seizure on the way to the hospital. Poor Brian was feeling that he had passed his seizure disorder on to his daughter, but come to find out it was just a febrile seizure from a spike in her fever. After many hours in the ER, blood work, urine work, Xrays, the works..the final diagnosis is well a fever of unknown orgin. There was some question of possible bronchitis, but she has not had any symptoms of any illness. They ended up giving her some fluids and an antibiotic as a precaution if it is the beginning of bronchitis. As we were leaving the ER, Avery told everyone bye-bye and was starting to act like her "normal" toddler self. She has been running a fever off and on today and we are just medicating her around the clock with Motrin and Tylenol. Last night was the scariest night of my life, and I hope that I never have to witness that again! I still can't get the image of my limp, blue-lipped daughter out of my mind, my worst nightmare! I am so proud of my husband for keeping calm and knowing what to do in that situation, cause I sure was a basket case! I am so blessed and relieved that it really wasn't something more serious, apparently febrile seizures are a pretty common thing. Hopefully this is the last one I ever witness.
The pictures above are of her this afternoon snuggling with daddy. I had to take a picture of Avery holding her daddy's hand. You can see where her IV was in her hand, poor thing!

Chick--Chick--Chicken.

I thought I would share another fast, easy and yummy recipe that I found. It is from the Essential Mormon Cookbook.

Amazing Apricot Chicken
8 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 (8oz) bottle of Russian salad dressing
1 cup Apricot jelly
1 envelope Dry Onion Soup mix
Place chicken breasts in a greased 9x13 pan. Mix the next three ingredients together and pour over chicken breasts. Cook at 350 for an hour.

Buyer Beware!

This past weekend we went to Babies-R-Us in attempt to find a sleep positioner that might trick Delaney into sleeping in her bassinet. She will only sleep on my chest or lying next to me and occasionally in her swing. Brian and I thought that if we bought a positioner it might "trick" her into thinking someone was still holding her. Well we found this little gem, or so we thought, that has a heart-beat that helps the baby think that they are close to your heart, and has an inclined head rest and all that high quality stuff they advertise. For 34.99, yes we paid 35 bucks for this thing and brought it home and its not safe to use! I should of read the reviews on BRU website or on Amazon before purchasing, so back in the box it goes to be returned this weekend. Problems: The bottom is rounded so the positioner does not lay flat so if Delaney made any little move it tipped over! As soon as any weight was placed on the head rest, it would collapse back flat. In the picture on the box, it shows an infant totally in cased by the positioner, but Delaney's legs hung off the end really awkwardly. The box states it is for 0-6 months, so it's not like I have an unusually long baby.
So I have learned my lesson, read other mom's reviews before purchase!

Sunday Beauties

We took Delaney to church on Sunday for the first time and she did really well. She slept almost all the way through it! I couldn't ask for it to go any better, now if our toddler would learn from our infant on how to behave we would be all good!
Here are some pictures of Delaney in her cute little dress. She has shoes to match but she has really skinny long feet and most shoes expect newborns to have Flintstones feet, square and fat, so they are way too big..maybe in a couple of months. Avery is wearing the outfit that my mom got her! She made the skirt for her for Easter, but since I was so sick on Easter, she didn't have a chance to wear it. She has a matching purse that she made for her as well, but she refused to carry it. She looked so cute and Avery knew she looked good, she kept twirling around in her skirt! Thanks mom for the cute little outfit and her shoes went perfect!

What a Month!

Avery stuck! She put her whole body through a pant leg of a pair of my yoga pants. It was pretty humorous, I thought about leaving her like this all day. It would cut down on little tornado's mess during the day!
I would like to think she was smiling for this photo!
Wow! Yesterday marked a month since our Delaney blessed our lives and what a month its been. She fits right into our little family and wouldn't trade her. I might let you borrow her for a few hours to give me a good nap and close the buffet line for more than two hours!
Delaney is having more awake periods and her little cheeks are getting more chubby, which I love!! She still will not sleep in her bed and only on occasion in her swing, which means she sleeps on my chest or next to me. Something I said I would NEVER do, but we keep working on it. I don't get good sleep when I am being paranoid about her sleeping on me and etc..
This past weekend, I was lucky enough to get mastitis again. Only I can get mastitis twice in less than a month! It seriously had me doubting my abilities as a lactating woman and questioning how bad I wanted to quit it all. But after some much needed rest, thanks to my sweet husband, I am sticking with it.
Avery is adjusting well. She "sings" to her baby (Delaney) and when Delaney starts to cry, its always "OH! Baby!" It's really cute to see how much Avery loves her.

Sisterly Love!

I will show these to Avery and Delaney when they are teenagers and fighting constantly. My mom always told my sisters and I that we needed to be nice to each other because one day they would be our best friends! It is the truth, my sisters are truly my best friends.

3 Weeks

We have made it to 3 weeks! Still working on the nightime sleep, but the days are going by quickly. Avery is a big helper, she throws away the diapers for me and loves her little sister...wherever Delaney is you can find Avery attached to her! Delaney is getting more and more of a personality each day and couldn't imagine not having her in our little family!
