Snow Day

It snowed quite a bit over night Thursday and into Friday, lots of white fluffy snow. Unfortunately we hadn't purchased Ave any snow boots yet, so she really hasn't PLAYED in the snow!! Saturday Grandma and Grandpa Johnson gave Avery a present early, a pair of the cutest snow boots. She just loves her boots, she wears them inside any chance she has. We got her wintered up and she played in the snow, she had so much fun. It was just as much fun for her parents just to watch her experience something new. Tomorrow she is going to go sledding with her Grandpa, that will be fun to watch. We just got dumped on with new fresh snow, so it will be perfect for sledding!

Today I made the mistake of going to get a few last minute gifts. Daddy had to work part of the day today, so I was fortunate to have the company of my 17 month old! I stopped at Deseret Book to get a few things, big mistake, huge mistake. It was packed and Avery wasn't having it. I tried to walk with her holding my hand, nope didn't want to hold mommy's hand. Carrying your 20 something pound baby around a crowded store being 7 months pregnant with a diaper bag while looking for books and then having your child act like she is having seizures was soo much fun. Finally I gave up and cut my list short and headed for the check out lane...20 people long!! At the moment I couldn't decide if 3 books for my nieces were worth the embarrassment of my child and the killer back ache I was starting to get until the sweetest little old woman came up to me as my child was throwing herself in the opposite direction I was holding her and grabbed me and told me that she wanted to trade me places in line...I was like the 15th person and she was like the 3rd person. She told me that "you look like you have your hands full!". I almost broke into tears! That was the sweetest thing anyone has done for me. It really made me think about how that woman was the example of what Christmas should be about! It made me think of President Hinkley's Christmas devotional this year. He said that instead of saying "Merry Christmas" to someone, maybe we should be asking, "How may I help make your burdens light?". That sweet woman who I will probably never see again sure made my burdens a little lighter and saved my child from being donated to the Salvation Army bell ringer outside!

Three Years!

Today is Brian and I's 3rd wedding anniversary! It seems like such a short time ago but at the same time I have a hard time remembering what life was like before married life. Last night Brian took me to a nice dinner, a little over-rated, overly priced, but it was nice to be able to have "adult" conversation and have some alone time. Grandma and Grandpa J watched Avery for us and of course she was an "angel" as they said! Why she can't be that way for us is another question. So in the past three years we have lived in 3 different cities: College Station, Laredo, and now Draper. We have lived in 3 different homes, I have been pregnant for 2 of those years (ugh), I have had two jobs (LVN and SAHM), Brian has graduated from SHSU and has had 3 jobs (Sears, Kiewit, and Forsgren), we have had one lovely daughter Avery and one on the way, we have had 2 cars the whole 3 years, many different callings in our wards from Relief Society President to Sunday School Teacher, we have been on a wonderful cruise to Cozumel and Playa del Carmen...driven thru Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and Utah, what a trip to Never be taken again...Lots of many other things in between. I have NO idea where our wedding pics CD is or I would post some pics from our wedding, but I did find a picture of the Bountiful Temple we were married in. It was SO cold that day, fresh snow the day before, absolutely beautiful. Our lives have been so blessed by the good and the bad times, trials to make us grow stronger! I am blessed with a wonderful husband and a wonderful father who works so hard toprovide for us to allow me the blessing to stay home with our daughter! I love you honey!

OOOHH So Good!

Last night I made this for dessert. It was soo good, soo yummy. I saw the recipe on Good Things Utah and thought it looked easy enough to make. It really was easy. I thought I would share the recipe so you can enjoy some tasty goodness! (Morg- I promise if you FOLLOW the directions this is good unlike your other disasters you have attempted)

Sopapilla Cheesecake

Ingredients:

2 packages crescent rolls (I used low fat crescent rolls)
8 oz cream cheese (room temperature) (I used fat free cream cheese)
1 1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 cube (1/2 cup) real butter
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 can (12-16 oz) fruit topping (apple, cherry, blueberry, etc.)

Press 1 package crescent rolls into 9 x 13 inch pan Mix cream cheese, 3/4 cup sugar and vanilla; spread over rolls Place 2nd package of crescent rolls on top of mixture (pat thin to cover) Melt butter; mix with 3/4 cup sugar and cinnamon then pour over top, and spread to edge Bake at 350 degrees for 20 - 25 minutes until brown
Serve with fruit topping
Do not cover tightly or it will get soggy

Disgusting

This morning I decided to make Ave and I some homemade oatmeal. As usual I checked the date on the Quaker Oats box and it hadn't expired so I thought I was good to go. As Ave and I were ab out finished with our bowl I noticed a little black bug in the bowl. I thought it was just a random bug but upon closer inspection there was more than one. I immediately started to gag thinking about eating bugs. I went and looked in the Oatmeal box and to my horror was full of oats and little black bugs. I lost my breakfast in the kitchen sick at that moment! It will be a LONG time before I eat oatmeal again!! Hopefully it is just a little protein for Avery and her hair will grow:)

This is exactly what it said! Too funny!

You Were Nice This Year!

You're an uber-perfect person who is on the top of Santa's list.
You probably didn't even *think* any naughty thoughts this year.
Unless you're a Mormon, you've probably been a little too good.
Is that extra candy cane worth being a sweetheart for 365 days straight?

NOT so Jolly..

We found a cute dress that Avery could wear for Christmas. I am not sure about the "rules" if girls should have a Christmas dress or not. I hated to buy a dress that she would only wear a few times and then put away for the next girl to wear. But we found this cute little dress for 55% off at Kohl's and we couldn't pass it up. I think she looked adorable, not that you could tell that in the pictures. She absolutely refused to "pose" for pictures, so this is what we got..her lying on the ground in protest! But at least you see the "real" Avery. I guess that is why we call her Miss A. A for attitude!

And all that JAZZ!

Brian's dad got tickets to the JAZZ vs SUPER SONICS from one of his vendors and gave them to us! We were on the 5th row! Amazing seats, two rows up from where the Sonics went off the court to their dressing room. It was a great game, lots of fun and most importantly they WON! Avery went over to Ty and Holly's for the evening and played with her cousins and had lots of fun. It was really the first time she has been watched by anyone except for a lady who watched Ave for a couple of hours when Brian went to the ER when he had his seizure. It was really hard on mommy but Ty and Holly haven't lost one of their kids yet, so I had some confidence about that:) It was a great night. Thanks for the tickets!

Down and Out

I can't believe its only Wed. This week seems to be dragging along. Sunday after lunch Ave had fallen asleep in her high chair, so Brian put her to bed and we decided it was a perfect opportunity to take a nap. Not long after we laid down we heard Avery crying on the baby monitor, usually it just means she lost her binky and our assistance is needed in finding the binky, which is usually tossed overboard. Brian walked in there and I heard him over the baby monitor saying, "Ugh, Lauren that's not going to work. She has thrown up all over." Poor thing had vomited all over her bed and it looked like she had then rolled around in it, head first! We threw her in the bathtub and then took her by the fireplace to warm up. From 3 to 10 that day she continued to throw up. It broke my heart watching her dry heave and just be so listless lying with daddy. Brian was taking them for the team, he almost ran out of shirts to wear bc he kept getting puked on! I couldn't handle it and he knew it would be easier to clean one person up then two! I don't do good with throw up when I am pregnant. The last time Avery vomited we ended up in the hospital for 4 days with Rotovirus, so her throwing up made us nervous and brought back horrible memories! Luckily that night she did fine and she hasn't thrown up since, she has just been really fussy and not 100%. This morning she actually ate something and drank some milk and danced to the music on TV, so hopefully we are back on the mend! There is nothing worse then your baby being sick and not being really able to give or do much for them and them not be able to verbalize what really hurts.

Watch the cutest video of Avery. She is so excited about the fish in the aquarium. Pause my music so you can hear her "talking". Isn't she just the cutest?

Saturday Fun

Today we went to The Living Planet Aquarium in Sandy. Avery loves fishes, so we thought she would love it, and we were right! She squealed the whole time pointing and "talking" to the fishes. It was fun to see her enjoying it. There was another snow "storm" today, I love it. I think it is absolutely beautiful. Brian isn't as thrilled, growing up in Wyoming and all, but it is something new and exciting for this Texas bred girl.

Looking Back!

I was looking through some old photos when I found these of last Christmas in Texas! It brought back some great memories of the whole family minus Daniel and his crew crunched into a 4X4 box called my parents home. I don't know how we all survived, but we had a great time. Here are some pics of Avery and her first Christmas and Santa experience. I got all teary eyed thinking about how much she has changed and learned over the past year. I did realize that she has gotten more hair since then, not much but some. Aunt Morg suggested Rogain for babies!

Snow Storm

We got dumped on yesterday. It snowed almost 7 inches yesterday, it was absolutely beautiful! Brian and I had some things we wanted to do and I have only driven in snow a handful of times when I lived in Lubbock, but it was nothing like this. I had to drive our car to Discount Tire and meet Brian where he was getting new tires put on his car and just driving that short distance I thought I was going to have a panic attack. I got use to driving in the snow as the day went on. It looked like it was raining hard but it was all snow. Avery loved it. We had to get her gloves and a hat, we didn't need anything like that in Texas. Next weekend we are in search of some snow boots for her and I to wear to play out in the snow. We had a nice Saturday even with the first so called "snow storm" of the year. We ate at the Cheesecake Factory before we went to do a little shopping! It was heavenly. A pregnant ladies dream lunch...well it tasted great even when I wasn't pregnant, but I didn't feel as bad eating a lunch and then taking a piece of the best cheesecake ever home with me for later:)
