Avery took her first airplane ride yesterday and you would of thought she had been on airplanes her whole life. She was a pro! She fell asleep about 10 minutes into the flight and made a whimper or two when we were starting to descend. We had her sucking on her binkie to help relieve some of the pressure in her ears. The only real cry was when we were getting off the plane her bad, bad mommy bonked her head on the overhead storage compartment. Avery had a nice red raised bump on her head! Boy did I feel like a winner! I have to say the whole flying experience with an infant was exhausting. I was lucky to have Brian traveling with me, I could not imagine doing it alone. Avery was asleep in her carseat when we got to the metal detectors and they had me take her out of the car seat, break down the stroller, take off her shoes, take off my shoes, take the computer out of the tote, and then walk through the metal detector! I am sure the people in line behind us loved us! Gotta love it! We got to Dallas in one piece with all our luggage thankfully. Kiewit spared no expense for our hotel room. We are staying at the Omni in Dallas, our room has a huge plasma TV and king size bed. When we opened our suitcase everything was disorganized and there was a nice sheet of paper from TSA informing us that our baggage was inspected! I wonder if they tasted Avery's formula to make sure it wasn't crack or something. Brian is required to wear a suit and tie for his meetings for the next couple of days and of course he forgot his ties and his suit belt. So today he borrowed a tie from a fellow co worker and he wore his brown belt that he wears with his jeans. The tie of course in order for it to look long enough has a short little tail up towards his neck, the guy he borrowed it from is like a foot or so shorter than Brian is. It was a sight to see.
I realized this afternoon that I will not take Avery to eat lunch alone again. We went downstairs to Dovers Grill inside the hotel to eat lunch while Brian was in his meetings. I fed Avery before I left but of course when I sit down and she is in her highchair she wants my water glass, the bread, the plate, the menu...basically anything and everything in her sight. I get her little toy plastic chains out for her to play with, but c'mon mom...like that is anywhere as fun as a fork is!! The grill is full of business meeting kinda people and here I am sitting at a table bending down and picking up binkies and toy chains every few minutes with a squealing baby. To make a long story short, I finished my lunch up in our room! I love it when people make the comment...it looks like you got your hands full..I wonder what gave them the first clue.. the spit up all over my clothes or the baby with a hand full of mommy's hair squealing! I went to check out the rooms they had set up for the children at the district meeting...I wasn't too impressed. The babies room had cribs lined up around the walls. Some of them had babies in there lying down and some little babies were lying on a blanket on the floor. There were two women in there for about six babies! and the toddler and kid room across the hall was chaos. There were childcare providers running around trying to catch little kids as they ran out the door! I turned around and took Avery back to my room. I guess I am just not ready yet to leave her in someone elses care that I know nothing about. Thanks anyway Kiewit! Avery did get a really cute Kiewit tshirt! I am glad that I got to come with Brian though, its like a mini vacation paid for by someone else! I talked to my mom yesterday on the phone before we left for Dallas and she said something soooooo disturbing beyond many levels. She asked if I packed a sexy nighty! WOOOAAA ma! I laughed out loud and told her shes got to be kidding...I told her Avery was with us and her response to that was...she'll be asleep! ughgh I am now damaged for the rest of my life hearing that come from my moms own mouth! Disturbing I say!
